NCAA Division 1 Football Rule 14.2.3.5 and How It Might Just Cost A Kid A Shoot At A Degree And A Possible NFL Career

Even for the most avid of college football fans, I doubt any of them have ever heard of this rule. It’s the kind of obscure thing that you normally overlook, but in the case of FSU player Corey Surrency it just might cost him big time. The rule states:

It is titled, “Participation After 21st Birthday,” and it mandates the following: If an individual participates in an organized sport after his 21st birthday, but before enrolling in college, that participation “shall count as one year of varsity competition in that sport.”

Surrency was on pace to have a breakout senior season

Surrency was only an occasional player in FSU’s offense in his first year out of El Camino (Calif.) Community College, but he averaged almost 20 yards with four touchdowns on just 12 catches, showing the kind of talent and gamebreaking ability Keep reading →

OKC Acquires Tyson Chandler from New Orleans Hornets, Why Didn’t The Cavs Get Him?

The Oklahoma City Thunder have acquired center Tyson Chandler from New Orleans in a deal that sends veterans Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox to the Hornets.  The 7-foot-1 Chandler has averaged 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds this season. The Hornets also got the rights to DeVon Hardin, a second-round pick out of California in last year’s draft.

That’s all well and good but am I the only person that is wondering why in the world the Cavs didn’t try to acquire Chandler. Chandler has just the size and defensive presence Keep reading →

Tampa Bay Bucs Fire Head Coach John Gruden

In a somewhat unexpected move the Tampa Bay Buccaneers  fired Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden late Friday afternoon. And in what could be even more of shock, the Bucs plan to replace Gruden with Raheem Morris, who has never been anything more than a position coach in any of his six seasons in the league.

As for Gruden, six seasons without a playoff win was his undoing even for the man who led the Bucs to victory over Oakland in Super Bowl XXVII in his rookie season. Keep reading →

Why Can’t Los Angeles Keep A Football Franchise??

Calling the relationship between the city of Los Angeles and its football franchises a love/hate relationship would be a MAJOR understatement. Both the Rams and the Raiders have tried to successfully run franchises their over the past few decades but neither one of those franchises is their today. If you consider the fact that Los Angeles is the second biggest market behind New York, the question becomes why?

In all honesty, I just don’t think football and L.A. Keep reading →

Denver Broncos Fire Coach Mike Shanahan

After 14 years as head coach and over 20 years with the organization, the Denver Broncos have fired coach Mike Shanahan. I gotta admit that off all the firings this offseason this is the one that I didn’t see coming. With all the success he has had there, the two Super Bowls and the nine winning seasons, seven playoff appearances and three conference championships in 14 years you would think he would get a little more leeway. I mean it is true that the Broncos underperformed this season with respect to the talent they have on their team and they also did squander what looked to be a pretty promising season.

shany

After 14 seasons Shanahan is out as head coach and president of football operations for the Denver Broncos.

You can’t blame it all on Shanahan though, they had more injuries than a little bit, both on offense and defense. I mean they probably hold the record for most RB’s ever Keep reading →

Give The Kid A Break, Greg Oden Will Get Better But It Probably Won’t Be This Year

I gotta say that I don’t envy Greg Oden. You have been the biggest thing since sliced bread since high school, get picked #1 in the NBA draft, and are immediately expected to be the missing piece to what looks to be a very talented roster in Portland along with All-Star Brandon Roy, PF Lamarcus Aldridge, a slew of talented young guys including Rudy Fernandez, Martell Webster, and Travis Outlaw. Then in your first NBA game you go down and are out for the season. I gotta say I just don’t envy the guy.

oden1

It’s much to early to call Oden a bust, he does have a LOT of talent.

As many jokes are cracked, no matter how he looks he is only 20 years old. He is still figuring out who he is and to make it worse he has to watch all his faults picked at every night on ESPN. Keep reading →

New York Yankees Sign Free Agent Mark Teixeira

Most major sports outlets are reporting that the New York Yankees have just signed Mark Teixeira to a 10 year/180 million dollar deal finishing off a hat trick that also saw them land two other big free agent pitchers in C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett. The Yankees’ off season spending spree has now skyrocketed to $423.5 million. Just last Thursday, they gave Sabathia a $161 million, seven-year contract and Burnett an $82.5 million, five-year deal.

Charlotte Bobcats and Phoenix Suns In Five Player Trade, Jason Richardson Goes To The Suns

I woke up this morning and what do you know it seems that after the Charlotte Hornets acquired Antonio Daniels from the Wizards for Mike James and others the trade frenzy has begun.

He can jump, but can he actually help the Suns win?

On late Wednesday night the Suns traded Raja Bell and Boris Diaw to the Bobcats on Wednesday as part of a deal for Jason Richardson. The 6-foot-6 Richardson is a two-time NBA slam dunk champion and an accomplished 3-point shooter who is averaging 18.7 points this season and Keep reading →

What The Heck Is Going On With The Oakland Raiders??

Ok, so does anyone besides me think that Al Davis has really, really lost it. I mean Davis has always been an interesting NFL owner but this is getting out of hand. Only 8 games into a 7 year/70 million dollar deal the Raiders released him. Now understand, while Hall has struggled this season giving up more yards than any other defender this year according to STATS LLC, he is a two time Pro Bowl CB having back to back appearances in 2005 and 2006.

davis

This was a long time ago, I think its time to let somebody else run the team Al

This in and of it self would be weird but when you start pay attention to some of these other rumors coming out of Oakland it starts to get really disturbing. There is word that WR Javon Walker, who also signed a huge deal in the off-season could be let go as well as several others. Davis, looking ahead to the rest of the season and to 2009, asked his staff to study a list of potential players who could be let go before the end of the week or after the season, sources said. Washington Redskins sign CB Deangelo Hall

Less than 48 hours after being released by the Oakland Raiders former Pro Bowl CB Deangelo Hall has signed a one year deal with the Washington Redskins for $492,000, the remainder of his base salary of 1 million dollars.

Deangelo Hall is now a Washington Redskin, at least for the rest of this season

With this acquisition I am going to say something about the Redskins that I never thought I would say but they are showing some great savviness so far this season. Keep reading →
