Calling the relationship between the city of Los Angeles and its football franchises a love/hate relationship would be a MAJOR understatement. Both the Rams and the Raiders have tried to successfully run franchises their over the past few decades but neither one of those franchises is their today. If you consider the fact that Los Angeles is the second biggest market behind New York, the question becomes why?
In all honesty, I just don’t think football and L.A. go together. Is the market big enough to support a football franchise, yes, but does the the city have a football kind of character, I don’t think so. L.A. has always been a town of glitz and glam and everything about football goes against that. Football is rough, gritty, and at times down right nasty. Football is the bad boy of sports and while for most women they like to date the bad boy for a little while, most of those women don’t actually marry him. It’s the same way with L.A. and football, they date a while sometimes even for a few years but in the end its a relationship that just doesn’t have what it takes to last for the long-term.
Now the NBA, well as we all know that’s another story.
